Dave Gardner’s “Thank God It’s Monday” 02MAY11

“Thank God It’s Monday” is to help companies thrive!

This week’s focus: business execution

I’ve been impressed by the depth of talent on American Idol this season. My early and continuing favorite–Casey Abrams–was, sadly for me, eliminated this past week. I really looked forward each week to experience what he would create.

While I would have loved to see Casey in the competition for another couple of weeks, I knew a few weeks ago that he wasn’t going to win–his performances were, at times, “over the top” as he strove to stand out from his competitors.

While Casey was the most talented musician (not singer or entertainer) on the American Idol stage this season and perhaps any past season, this competition isn’t about being the most talented–it’s about who resonates best with a diverse audience of people who also vote.

And, so it is in business. The best product or service seldom wins. Moments of brilliance aren’t enough. The company that creates the best overall customer experience based on all the touch points thrives.

Thought for the week:

“…the more a company can deliver customized goods on a mass basis, relative to their competition, the greater is their competitive advantage.”
– Stan Davis, Future Perfect
